About Courses
Skills for Success courses will help you develop the skills required to advance your career. We urge you to work with your supervisor to select courses most suited to your work and personal goals. You may apply for any courses offered, even if it is not related to your current job.
We hope you will choose from the many learning opportunities that can help you prepare for the challenges and demands of your current job and future career opportunities.
Eligibility
Free for NYS employees!
Employees are eligible to participate in Skills for Success courses if they are:
- A CSEA-represented New York State (NYS) employee (ASU/02, OSU/03, ISU/04, or DMNA/47).
- A CSEA-represented employee working in a local government, school district, state authority, or the private sector, as space permits.
- A NYS employee (previously in the ASU/02) serving a probationary period in a transition title or traineeship supported by the Partnership (MC/06 or PS&T/05) may attend courses or webinars.
- A NYS employee in a Management/Confidential (MC/06) clerical or secretarial title as space permits.
Supervisor Approval
Your supervisor must approve your attendance. It is important to ensure that your correct supervisor and their current email address is listed in the Statewide Learning Management System (SLMS).
After submitting your enrollment application through SLMS, your supervisor will receive an email notification alerting them to your application and requesting action. Your supervisor must approve your enrollment for your request to be finalized and for you to be officially enrolled.
If your supervisor denies your request, you will be notified by email from SLMS.
Release Time
It is at the supervisor’s discretion to decide if an employee can attend a course without charging leave credits. You may attend on your own time if you are not scheduled to work during the offered course time.
SLMS Notification of Enrollment
Your SLMS status will remain as pending until approximately two to three weeks prior to the start of class, even with supervisory approval. Once the class is selected to run, your SLMS status will be updated to "enrolled" and you will receive an email enrollment notification from SLMS.
NOTE: If you enroll in a class through SLMS, or by completing the Partnership's Skills for Success application form, and do not receive notification 10 days before the class is scheduled, please call the Partnership at (800) 253-4332.
Dropping a Class
Your enrollment into a class signifies a commitment to attend the entire class. If you cannot attend and have enrolled through SLMS, please drop the class as soon as possible.
If you cannot attend and you sent in a paper application, please drop the class by contacting the Partnership at (800) 253-4332 or by email at [email protected] as soon as possible.
Do not ask someone to attend in your place because the Partnership maintains a waitlist. By dropping the class at the last minute or failing to attend, you may be denying another employee the opportunity to participate.
Waitlist
Course is Full Notification
If you are not accepted into a course, you will be notified by email. We encourage you to reapply when the course is offered again.
Waitlist
The Partnership will maintain a waitlist for classes that have reached full enrollment, in the event a vacancy occurs. Wait-listed employees will be given advance notice and priority to register the next time the course is offered.
Additional Classes
At times, additional classes are scheduled due to high demand. Employees on waitlists for these classes will be contacted and offered the opportunity to attend the newly scheduled class.
Cancellation or Date Change
Cancellations
If a course is canceled, you will be notified by email. If there is no email address for you in SLMS, you will be notified by phone.
Date Changes
Occasionally, the Partnership must change a course date. Please read your email notification carefully.
Obtaining Your Certificate
Approximately three to four weeks after you complete a course, you will be notified that your class status has been updated to Completed, allowing you to print your certificate.
To print your certificate:
- Log in to SLMS.
- Go to My Learning page.
- Locate the appropriate course/webinar.
- Click on the Print Certificate button.
Reasonable Accommodations
All training is accessible to employees with disabilities. If you have questions about accessibility or a request for accommodation, please call (518) 408-1822 or email [email protected].
