Explore Our Labor-Management Committee Trainings
Through labor-management collaboration, agencies can jointly request worksite training through the Partnership to help build or sustain an effective labor-management committee.
Fundamentals of Labor-Management Committees
This webinar explores how a strong Labor-Management Committee (LMC) helps meet the three LMC objectives: advance agency’s mission; improve the quality of work-life; and enhance labor relations across the board. It provides an overview of the importance of strong relationships and structure for new committees, provides a review for fully functioning committees, and offers additional support or guidance. Benefits to L-M cooperation, challenges committees face, and strategies to overcome them will also be discussed. An overview of the structural (or procedural) aspects will be presented, including committee composition, co-chair and member responsibilities, agenda preparation, meetings, meeting notes, ground rules, and dispute resolution.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe what a Labor-Management Committee is and who serves on it.
- Recognize benefits and barriers to Labor-Management cooperation.
Identify ways committees can strengthen relationships and structure.
Labor-Management Committee Process Training
This training provides committees with a working knowledge of the principles and practices of effective labor-management committees. It engages the learner in lecture, discussion, and individual and group exercises. Committees are encouraged to develop an understanding of how to establish and maintain effective labor-management relationships.
By the end of the class, your committee will be able to:
- Understand the challenges of both labor and management and develop strategies for becoming better allies to each other.
- Learn techniques for building effective working relationships.
- Develop a labor-management committee operating agreement, an agenda development process, and meeting facilitation techniques.
- Practice effective problem-solving techniques.
Participate in an actual “coached” labor-management committee meeting.
How Labor-Management Committee Process Training Works
Complete a Needs Assessment
After you submit a Worksite Training Application, the Partnership's Labor-Management Services (LMS) Team will follow up with you to conduct a needs assessment. The assessment consists of two separate sessions, one with labor representatives and one with management representatives. The information that is gathered is used to create a customized training curriculum specific to the committee.
Schedule Your Training
Once your needs assessment is complete, our LMS Team will schedule and deliver your customized training with your LMC. The training emphasizes building communication and problem-solving skills unique to the labor-management committee environment.
Receive Feedback & Support
After training is complete, the LMS Team will attend one of your LMC meetings to provide feedback and support. Finally, a follow up survey will be sent to LMC members a few months after the training is complete.
