Tuition Benefits

Can help you or your employees:

  • obtain a college degree
  • qualify for a promotion or career advancement
  • update job skills or start a new career direction

This program assists employees in meeting their educational and job skills needs. Educational benefits help employees improve their career and promotional opportunities, and prepare for future state workforce needs.

Tuition Voucher-Can cover tuition at over 150 participating colleges, universities, BOCES, and proprietary schools in New York State in lieu of payment from the student.

Tuition Reimbursement-Can provide tuition payments to students upon successful completion of coursework at accredited schools that do not accept vouchers.

Credit-By-Examination Fee Reimbursement-Can provide unlimited reimbursement for credit-by-exam fees through CLEP, DSSTs, TECEP, and Excelsior College. These exam programs allow you to earn college credit for what you already know. If interested, visit the web sites for CLEP, DSSTs, TECEP, and Excelsior College examinations and then contact the Partnership and speak with an advisor to obtain an application form.

Certification & Licensure Examination Fee Reimbursement Program-Can provide reimbursement for one certification or licensure examination fee up to a maximum of $300. To be eligible, the examination must be job-related or career-related; must lead to certification or licensure for an occupation that currently exists in New York State service; and must be administered by an accredited organization. To apply, interested employees must contact a Partnership advisor at advisors@nyscseapartnership.org or by calling 1-800-253-4332.

CSEA-Represented NYS Employees

You may apply for two tuition benefits per program year. Any course taken must begin between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011 or you must be actively participating in the course sometime between these dates.

NYS Managers & CSEA Leaders

You can encourage your employees to take advantage of tuition benefits to update or enhance their job skills and to prepare for future State workforce needs.

Targeted Job Skills Tuition Program-Can be utilized by NYS agencies/facilities and CSEA locals to meet the training needs of a particular position or title. The program supports agency/facility workforce development and succession planning needs. Targeted Job Skills Tuition Program [pdf] are issued to employees identified by agency/facility labor and management and can be used when coursework or training programs satisfy:

  • certification and/or licensing requirements
  • educational requirements to take a New York State civil service exam
  • educational requirements to complete a traineeship, or
  • other specific job skills training.
